 Client testimonials

  • ‘The beauty of having Caroline as my agent has been the sense of being in a safe pair of hands. Caroline really understands how to bridge the gap between publisher and writer, in a way that both promotes good, professional relations but ensures that my interests are paramount. More importantly, that's all done with a smile and a sense of humour. Caroline built my writing career from scratch, and I'm well aware that I couldn't have done it without her. When you're thinking getting about an agent, you want someone who is fiercely on your side, who knows the publishing industry inside out, who isn't afraid to tell you the truth, and who actually replies to emails! Caroline is the whole package.’

What does a literary agent do?

  • Work with our clients to shape their writing ready for publication

  • Submit writers’ work to the right publishers and keep you informed throughout the process

  • Negotiate publishing deals in all formats (print, ebook, audio) and look after writers’ interests through publication and beyond

  • Provide honest ongoing career and market advice

  • Sell translation and film & TV rights (often working with select co-agents)

  • Collect royalties on behalf of writers and pay in a timely fashion

  • Work on commission (usually 15% in the UK, 20% internationally)

  • Share author news on our websites and social media channels (but we aren’t book publicists or marketeers)
